On Friday night we went to an excellent free concert in Stroudsburg at the Eastern Monroe County Library's Bookhouse, its monthly series which alternates music and poetry. This month's musicians were Silk City, who put on an excellent show -- as you'd expect -- one highlight being their rendition of the Wizard of Oz medley which appeared on the earlier Flying Fish CD from Barry Mitterhoff, with John Gorka sitting in as the Woodsman. This time around, Barry took over that role, Danny Weiss was the Tin Man, and Larry Cohen was Bert Lahr -- I mean the Cowardly Lion -- with a friend of the band doing Dorothy. The audience loved it, singing along at the indicated places; the acoustics in the room are terrific, and I think it was even better than the CD. I'm prejudiced. That set me up for this show, anyway, and as I'd been sitting next to Stephen DiLauro, whose tales of the Delaware have been featured on this program over the past few months, that was a natural. I love folk music. (Oh: Obo Addy is a Ghanian expatriate, now living out in Portland; his music reminds me a lot of our friend Maxwell Donkor, who ran a drum circle on Sunday afternoon at Lake Lenape, in Delaware Water Gap at a break in the Appalachian Trail, so that sort of slid in there too.
